Post Race Commentary - What Works Best?

A question from a Skipper:

After each race I do a detailed write-up, so that everyone who was not on the boat that day knows what happened, and so those of us that were there can learn from our mistakes! I would like to add this into the permanent record of each event on Crew Manager, and am looking for guidance of any sort of “best practice” for doing this. In the manual there is reference about "Skipper records race results and posts commentary about the race” but nothing solid on now to best do it.

Response:
The procedure for recording race results is covered in the Skipper Manual in the section titled Recording Race Results. The following provides alternatives for communicating post race comments.

Posting a Comment on an Event
  • Crew scheduled on that event receive an email with the comment (individual email)
  • The comment is always accessible by clicking on the event - everyone may read it and logged in crew may make additional comments. Only Crew scheduled for the event will receive notification for any "comment on the comment"
  • The most recent 5 comments show as links in the sidebar of the website (e.g. who posted the comment and what the event or post was that had the comment)
Inserting a New Post (e.g. like a blog)
  • Crew in the "All Posts" group receive an email with the post (individual email)
  • The post is always accessible by clicking on it in the blog.
  • The post may be flashed across the screen if the category "Slider" is checked.
  • Everyone may read the post and logged in crew may make comments.
  • Crew in the "All Posts" group will receive notification for any "comment on the post"
Skipper Send Email
  • The commentary may be sent to either the Crew scheduled for an event, or the "All Posts" group, as selected by the dropdown
  • The commentary may be sent as a "Group Message" allowing recipients to reply to all, or as individuals
  • The email content is not archived on the Crew Manager server. Thus, there is no link to access the commentary that is available when posting a comment, or inserting a new post.
Your communications model might use Posting a Comment on an Event that is sent to just the crew members, followed by Skipper Send Email to either the "All Posts" or "Core Crew" group if there is something you want notify the entire crew to read. The content of the email may have the link inserted for the event that has the comment.
