Feature Incorporated: Add crew to an event via normal calendar screen

Post by dancorcoran »

While the new feature to change crew to an event by the captain meets the need, it does require a fair number of clicks to do so for multiple crew members.

A more ideal way would be the captains view of the event availability, to include all people in the roster so we can easily change multiple people at the same time. For example I would like to put "no" for those people I know are not going and wouldn't make the effort to come to the website to choose no, and more generically when I query the crew about a friday race be able to go and put down all the yes, no, maybe from the query.

This suggestion will be considered for implementation. I'll develop a proposed approach in a couple of weeks for review. Once that is done, I can code on a not to interfere with sailing basis.

Here are two proposed approaches for comment.

Approach #1 (Easiest to Implement):
  1. Detect if Skipper or Admin is Logged in when an event is displayed
  2. If Skipper or Admin is logged in, Add direct link on event to open Edit Assignments by Crew
  3. This would allow adding crew members to the event
Approach #2:
  1. Detect if Skipper or Admin is Logged in when an event is displayed
  2. If Skipper or Admin is logged in, display a button Add Another Crew Member
  3. Skipper would click the button that would then display a dropdown with all crew members
  4. A person would be selected, and Availability dropdown displayed
  5. The Submit Availability Change button would be clicked and the person would be added to the event and availability set as selected

The ability to add Crew via an individual Event screen, or in a Calendar list display has been incorporated. The additional benefit is existing Crew listed on an event may be edited (Availability, Position and Assignments) within the event. The picture below shows a line at the bottom of the table with drop down selectors for Crew, Position, Assignments and Availability. Documentation will be updated to reflect the text and picture below.
  1. Assuming you are logged in as Skipper or Admin, open a calendar event by clicking on it.
  2. Use the dropdown selectors to select a Crew member, Position, Assignments and Availability to add or edit existing Crew on the event.
  3. Click the blue Submit Availability Change button
  4. The screen will refresh after submission with the Crew member added to the table, or if already there, updated per the dropdown selections.
  5. This also works on the Calendar Agenda view with multiple events listed. A single event may have crew added using multiple submissions if desired.

This feature was added to all sites on 12 July to Edit Assignments by Event under the Skipper menu. It will also be documented in a future update to the Skipper manual.
